The crew of an Ukranian plane seized in the northern Nigerian city of Kano for carrying arms to Equatorial Guinea has been transferred to Abuja, a military officer said Monday.

"The seven Ukranians and their Nigerian collaborator were driven to Abuja midnight in the company of three men from the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI)," the officer, an army captain, told AFP.

"The decision to drive them out of Kano under the cover of the night was to avoid attracting public attention," he added.

He said the crew will face further interrogation in the Nigerian capital.

The plane has been in Kano since its seizure on Wednesday after an emergency landing at the airport due to technical problems.

Security official said eighteen crates of mines and ammunition were found aboard the aircraft.
