Walt Disney Co.'s Disney-ABC Domestic Television and Liberty Media Corp.'s Starz Entertainment said Thursday they signed a new exclusive licensing agreement for Disney movies that will last through 2015 — three years longer than a previous deal.
Under the deal, Starz gets exclusive rights to show animated and live-action Disney films that have come out in theaters. The movies will be shown on its Starz, Encore and MoviePlex TV channels and through its on-demand and online services.
The agreement includes movies produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel Entertainment, Disney-Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures. It doesn't include movies made by DreamWorks Studios and Miramax Films.
The companies did not release financial terms of the new deal.
Disney shares rose 24 cents to $33.57 in afternoon trading.
